STRUCTURAL PORTRAITS

I am not an architect. Nor a student of architecture. But I love buildings. Especially old buildings. To me they are like people, rich in personality and full of weather-worn details. So I try to photograph them as if they were sitting for a portrait. Several of these structures are from my current neighborhood in Jersey City, New Jersey. Most were taken in the New York Metropolitan area and New Jersey. And some are from travels, especially in coastal Maine. Some are more attractive than others. Some are in desperate need of repair. Some are quite functional. Some have been repurposed. Some have been torn down. Some are places which have special meaning to me. Others just kind of caught my eye. But they all have one thing in common: They were built by people and for people. As such, I try to photograph them as if they are people.
